What can I expect in a seamanship career?

Most Seamanship graduates go to work on ships or other sailing vessels. Work schedules and weather conditions vary depending on the type of ship. Most travel for long periods of time and work long hours while they are on the ship.

You can learn more about seamanship careers, salaries and experience here.

What can I get at Tongue Point Job Corps?

Job Corps offers residential career training and education programs for low-income students 16 through 24 years old. You’ll get hands-on training in seamanship at our campus in Astoria, Ore., from our experienced instructors.

How do I know if I’m eligible?

There are a few eligibility requirements to meet before you can start training at Tongue Point Job Corps. For example, you should be a low-income 16- through 24-year-old and a U.S. citizen (or lawfully admitted permanent resident alien, refugee, asylee or other immigrant who has been authorized to work in the United States).

Connect with an Admissions staff member to learn more about income eligibility; but you may qualify if you receive SNAP, TANF, or free or reduced school lunch, or if you are experiencing homelessness or are a foster youth.

But is it really free?

It is! Job Corps is completely free of cost. All you have to do is show up, work hard and be ready to succeed.
